6:02 5 dollars a month isn’t bad. 5 dollars a month for tons of site’s tho. Google 5$, Netflix another 5$, YouTube another 5$, any other site another 5$ that shit adds up. Maybe it’s not as bad as I think it would be but I think there should be a middle ground between the two where I have to pay for Netflix but google searching “how to code” or “cute cat videos” is free. Just my opinion but idk 🤷♂️
When I was broke I would scam things a lot to get them for free. To the point where I’d feel like I was scamming Sam by asking for a subscription even if I wasn’t. But now i make a lot of money, more than I could have imagined, but I still feel this scammer sense in me. When I went to subscribe to Sam and he asked for money or said to contact him if I can’t afford it, I was about to do it but then I felt really really guilty and paid instead. Sam’s totally right about everything he said here
I love Sam Harris’s books. The man has superb insight, grounded in real-world clinical studies, in consciousness and spirituality/morality. Likewise, the concept of “free” is lost in most people. Nothing is free. There is a cost, either in money, capital, or opportunity in any transaction. Someone pays the price. This is a concept that I think most Americans never truly realize.
Growing up in Ohio I listed to a radio station called RadioU. To this day it is a listener supported station. That allows them to be commercial free. Its unlike any radio station I've heard. Its similar to what they are talking about because you can listen too it for free as long as you want, but if you value the content and want it to stick around then you can help support them financially. Its a very interesting (and I think successful) business model.
I personally would keep the ads-system. Big companies should pay for the content not the average joe. If YT or FB wouldn't be free anymore people wouldn't use it or at least many wouldn't anymore. It just cuts money from those who make good money right now, afford really good gear and with it create really good content. I'm fine with watching a few ads.
What's the difference? Have adds so people don't pay, or ask people to pay? Either way, you are paying the person for their content. Oh yeah, this way Sam can take his moral high ground while taking people's money.
I really dont like this guy.. might be the fact that multiple times he tells people who they are because is what he thinks whether its an educated guess or a personal belief… or the fact that he acts like he knows exactly where everything is going to go, whats going to happen and why it happened like a judgmental know it all who is too god for average things… kinda like getting a professor for a technical class who throws everything at you the first day of class and expects you to already know everything or talks down to you like your a waste Of his time…
The narcissism involved in someone thinking people want to pay to listen to your opinion. It would be one thing if Sam was producing something particularly entertaining, but listening to an opinion is what I do when I am just bored out of my mind it is the bottom of the barrel for entertainment.

I think it’s always a bad idea to guild trap people to pay for the paywall. Market forces should dictate that.

I hate the argument that everyone can afford $5 coffee everyday. Not everyone.

Let you get it for free if you can’t afford it? That’s unAmerican, Sam Harris is a communist

Start charging money for YouTube and I won’t watch anymore, same for FB and many of these others. The saddest thing is that YouTube sold out to google

Been giving Sam $7 a month since he started asking for it. No one deserves my money more tbh.
